On 19 September, Clínicas TRUST – Centro do Rim held a free public kidney disease screening at Parque Urbano da Pasteleira, in collaboration with the Parish Union of Lordelo do Ouro and Massarelos, Unilabs and the Portuguese Kidney Patients Association (Associação de Doentes Renais de Portugal).
Throughout the day, our team welcomed many members of the community and assessed indicators such as blood pressure and blood glucose, which help to identify early signs of kidney disease. Each participant received their results on the spot, personalised advice and, where appropriate, guidance on medical follow-up.
Chronic kidney disease often progresses silently, and many people only find out they have it at an advanced stage. High blood pressure and diabetes are among the main risk factors, and early diagnosis makes all the difference in prevention and treatment. Bringing screening directly to people, in a shared public space such as Pasteleira Park, is a concrete way of promoting health in the community.
We would like to thank the Parish Union of Lordelo do Ouro and Massarelos, Unilabs and the ADRP for their partnership and commitment to organising this initiative, as well as everyone who took part.
