The Porto Shoulder Academy will always be a project based on the desire to grow better but to grow well, in the right way, supported by the school and honest science that the Academy's four clinical pillars share.
There are four generations of doctors trained in the 'Shoulder School' of the Orthopedics Department at Santo António Hospital in Porto, who feel, as Hippocrates said: 'The physician must have two objectives: to do good and to avoid doing harm.'
Still quoting Hippocrates, we will always remember that 'There are truly two things, science and opinion: the first generates knowledge, the second ignorance.' Therefore, diagnoses and treatments must always keep in mind that despite the continuous development of surgical techniques, the surgical approach still follows clear and scientific criteria, always remembering that a patient is much more than a 'sick shoulder.'
Like all new projects, there are rough edges to smooth out and doubts to resolve, but as Ken Coleman said, "Doubt means that we care, fear means that it matters.” Our goal will always be total commitment to the patient’s best interest, honoring the ancestral profession we freely chose to follow. We aim to be a reference in offering clinical guidance based on the best that clinical and scientific evidence can prove.
